Would like to share images from an 1892 family book. The images I have are way to big for webpages. Where can I learn more about copying and compressing images so they will work well on webpages?

I use this free service to compress image files:
    https://www.iloveimg.com/compress-image

and this to compress pdf files:
    https://www.ilovepdf.com/compress_pdf

how big of files are we talking about ???
what dpi did you scan at??
scanning a black and white image at much more than 600 dpi is probably a waste
and even 300 dpi should be sufficient for most usage.
for uploads to FS I would at least use 300 dpi (for archival purposes)

and most web pages can handle 300-600 dpi images though in recent years many web tools
will use image formats that are much better at storing the data in highly compressed format.
webp format for example is much smaller than the old tiff format.
few people now use tiff format - since its files were so massive and lacked compression.

most images taken/stored with current technology are in a format that is well under what FS can handle.
and conversion from some very old non compressed formats almost always ends up in it being below the 15MB file size for FS. Most all jpg images - even high quality resolution images are usually well within the FS limits and most web browsers can handle jpg images of just about any resolution.

but if you have images in very old data formats - such as tiff or BMP - you should convert them to newer formats such as JPG or PNG - and usually just the conversion itself will bring you down to normal file sizes.
