this is a grandmother, we cant find name of her father or her mother. We were told mother died in childbirth and father was lost at sea? Grandparents were in Brazil but from US or from Great Britain.

Start by searching for your grandmother’s civil birth or baptism record in Brazil, ideally using FamilySearch’s Brazil Civil Registration and Brazil Baptisms (1688–1935). These usually name both parents—even if one passed away. Also, try U.S. or British consular birth or death reports via FindMyPast or Ancestry’s Deaths Abroad. Lastly, check for her in U.S. or U.K. censuses as a child born in Brazil—she might appear with grandparents.

You can also try YourRoots: – start with Brazil, U.S., and the U.K. filters to cover all angles.

NYC deaths from 1952 are not online or available to the general public, but as a grandchild, you have the right to purchase a copy from the city. If the informant knew the names of her parents, they should be on the death certificate.

@SusanGEPHART I was not able to locate civil registration records in FamilySearch's Brazil collections for America, Ipueiras, Ceará, Brazil earlier than 1889 so you may need to try other options suggested. Also, FYI, on June 22nd, new restrictions were placed on ALL Brazil records in our collections. We can no longer make available birth records less than 100 years old and marriage records 70 years. Death records, I believe are still available but perhaps not for recent years—I would have to check on that.

Please check spelling, is it McIntyer or McIntyre? I would also check for newspaper articles and/or obituaries for the death date as these often name relatives ie children or grandparents
