I'm searching record on "Italy, Florence, Archdiocese of Florence, Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Catholic Church Records, 1450-1900" https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/5000378 and noted that a lot or record had wrong place as birth place: in particular over 232.000 (two hundred and thirty-two thousand !!!) reported "San Rocco, Novara, Piemonte, Italia". I write to eu_support@familysearch .org and to supporto-italiano@familysearch .org but seems are unable to correct ans suggest to use "feedback" button, but is not a single problem and I can't sent 232.000 feedback. Same problem also in "Grosseto, Diocesi di Grosseto, Catholic church record" https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/5000381

with over 192.000 record with this wrong place.

@genealogiadavini I have reported this place name error as being found in fourteen collections of Italy Catholic Church records and totaling over 1.2 million records. In addition, these collections are returning a 404 error when accessing the index. All of these were updated on the same day so perhaps that will help engineers discover what happened.

Thank you for helping us uncover the scope of the problem.

From the description of the collection:
" Each record indexed using CAI will include the message, "This record was indexed by a computer" with a link to report errors."

This indication is good for correcting some records, not for 400,000. This is an error in the database, not a misreading of the text. It is a place not in Tuscany, but in Piedmont.

Hi @SerraNola, can you kindly inform me when the collections will be corrected and updated?

I've found a similar problem with a whole file of records from the 1891 census for part of Greenock, Scotland, in which for every record in the 642-page file the county is wrong—again probably because of the parser finding a Greenock in the wrong county, placing all of the records in Perthshire rather than the correct county, Renfrewshire.

it's within image group 004552094. a sample item (the one that led me to it in the first place) is for Allan Cameron: "Scotland, Census, 1891", FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KSN9-RG1 : Tue Jun 24 01:47:41 UTC 2025), Entry for Allan Cameron and Isabella Cameron, 1891. (though I've edited that one record to show the correct shire.) I sampled other records from beginning to end of this 642-page file and every one I looked at mistakenly gave Perthshire, with notes like these:

    Event Place

Perth Middle Church, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom

    Event Place (Original)

    Middle Church, GREENOCK, Renfrewshire, Scotland

The whole file, potentially thousands of names, all needs to be corrected. Is there a way to do it en masse?

@brs Thank you for reporting. It seems to be just the one film (DGS #4552094) so it is likely a metadata error. It has been documented.
