I am looking for information on Matthias (Theis) Kocks MJ9-6QN  and MJ7Z-9 F3 born in NeukirchenVluyn . Heindrich Kocks possible father.

Married Sebijilla --Zybilla-Beel Kuhlen September 28,1755 Repelen, Mors.

How can there be more than one PID per person? Not sure which one to chose to merge

I am not able to travel to SLC and the nearest one to me is unable to help  been there several times and no one knows how to find.

I have been looking for information on and off for several years. I hope someone can help me.

I really want to find out more about my mothers family!

Also looking to see if possible relatives in Netherlands.

I know I am asking a lot, but I can't go ahead with my search before Matthias.

    Thank you!

MJ7Z-9F3 was merged on Friday into GVJF-RYT so it'll be the latter you will be dealing with. MJ9-6QN is missing a character (PIDs are all 7 characters plus the hyphen), could you correct it please?

There are many, many examples of multiple PIDs for what can be verified (normally via attached sources) to be the same individual - here are just a few reasons (in no particular order):

    a) Someone adding a profile without checking properly whether the individual already exists in Family Tree (or indeed not checking at all, because they have not understood that Family Tree is a collaborative thing)

    b) Automated bulk inserts that don't work hard enough to avoid duplicates (gedcom uploads, automated BYU Record Linking Lab scripts, etc.)

    c) Duplicates still left lying around from the initial load of the FT database in 2012

    d) Profiles that were considered different at create time but which subsequent research has identified as duplicates and that haven't yet been merged

That one also has been merged (again on Friday) into GVJF-RYT, so it looks like you only have that one profile left to work with anyway, unless I am missing something.

(If you look at GVJF-RYT's change log you will see yet more merges on the same day, all done by the same person.)
