If you do keep track of the URL for your albums - like in some sort of bookmark list - or in some external document - you CAN actually go diretcly to an album and not have to wait for the gallery to complete display. This is true whether you are the album owner or not.

This has been very helpful for me to get around the issue (of long load times) somewhat.
