Family tree not synced with other family member’s work

It’s been a while since I’ve been on Family Search. Before, the work my mom or grandma did on their trees would show up in mine. When I logged in for the first time in a while, my tree only had a few generations back and it was spotty. When I looked at my brother’s account side by side to mine, he had much more information and individuals in his tree. He said my mom’s looked the same as his too. Does anyone know what might be going on with my account? And do you know some step by step instructions that would help me fix this?

Hi Kate One of the best ways to check for this is to look at the fan chart. It will show you where you have holes. You can also compare to the fan chart on your brother's account. Where you see problems on the fan chart, or any pedigree view, it is because there is something different on someone's person page. Remember the preferred settings have an impact on what you see on the tree. Here are the instructions for the fan chart.

Remember that FamilySearch Family Tree is a one world collaborative tree. you "should" be able to see changes live from family working around the world - if you're looking at the same Person ID.
That said, review the common deceased ancestors that your family has under their logins to make sure you all are working from the same PID's. Perchance you find that you and your brother have two different entries for your GGG Grandma - use the merge process to combine the different PIDs and have your branch of the world tree be the same for your (living) family again.

Thanks Jack, yes that’s what I’m wondering- I thought I should be seeing one live view. As you described it should be all one collaborative tree. Is there a way to make sure it’s synced properly? Or do I really need to be comparing with my brother’s tree for example and entering in on my end all the PID’s to sync mine up with the work his family tree shows?

What Jack is talking about is seeing changes made by others to deceased people. You should see those in real time. Living people you enter are not seen by anyone else. There is no syncing of the tree. Nothing is on your computer. When you are looking at Family Search it is all online including the living people you have entered. If you are still seeing difference between you and your brother for deceased people, you need to check the ID you are using and what your brother is using. Then merge if necessary.

Ok thank you Wayland. I plugged in some of the PIDs and my tree is more populated now with the correct info. There is one detail I didn’t notice before that I’m not sure how to resolve - the wife of one of my great grandpa’s wont populate on my family tree. I have a blank “add spouse” space. I noticed in the top left there is an icon that looks like 2 people. When I hover over it, it says “alternative spouses for (my grandpa’s name)”. And when I click on it, it shows my great grandma that should be populating that space and then an [unknown name]. I tried to select my great grandma but nothing happened. When I click into my great grandpa’s profile it lists the correct great grandma as his spouse with no other indication of an alternative spouse. Any ideas on how to get this grandma to populate on my family tree next to my great grandpa?

Kate, just as a note, if when you ask questions like this, if you would provide the PID for who you are looking at, we can give you a much better answer. Now on to your question. Anytime you see something wrong or different on the family tree, it is because there is something wrong on some person page. In this case, look at the person page for the child of your great grandparents. I think would be either your grandfather or grandmother. In the family members section, it probably shows them as a child of your great grandparents and then separately as a child of only your great grandfather. Remove that relationship and everything should be okay. If I missed the boat, provide me with the PIDs for those you are talking about. Remember on the universal tree of family search, I can see everything you see about your ancestors. Thanks.
