I am trying to document Wm R Weatherly as my 2 greats-grandfather – born circa 1834in TN, married on 25 Dec 1855 in Sunflower Co MS to Mrs Cintha/Cinthia/SynthaHawes or Hanes (her marriage record surname is unclear), and died 10 Jan 1864 as a CSA POW in the Rock Island Prison Camp, and buried in grave #164 in the CSA Section at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island IL.

At issue is that I cannot find an 1860 MS census showing Wm R and Cintha Weatherly’s intact family.

Following the death of William R Weatherly in 1864, the 1870 census, McNutt PO Sunflower Co MS shows Household #197 Family #182 with Cintha Weatherly as the head of household, Tommy 12 – at home, and Julia 10 - at school. All born in MS.

Also on the 1870 census, McNutt PO, Sunflower Co, MS, and next to Cintha, Tommy and Julia Weatherly, is Household #198, Family #183, that of her brother-in-law, Jeff J. Weatherly, age 32, a farm laborer. He is shown as born in MS.

Down the road in Household #357, Family #327, the property of the Eli Etheridge family. Mathew Weatherly - age 14, my great-grandfather- is listed on the line below the Etheridge family as a farm laborer. I believe Mathew was the eldest son of Wm R and Cintha Weatherly, who was farmed out to the Etheridges after the death of his father.

More about Wm R Weatherly and Jefferson Weatherly:

The 1850 Marion AL census shows Household #39 Family #38 of A(bner) B Weatherly 47 Farmer, born NC, wife - Jane 35, born SC, Leroy M 18, Farmer, born TN, Wm R Weatherly age 17,Farmer born TN, Caswell W 15, Farmer, born TN, Thomas D 11, Farmer born AL, Jefferson Weatherly age 10, born AL, Elizabeth 9, born AL George 8, born AL Nancy 7, born AL, Catharine 6.born AL

I, and my maternal male 1st cousin, through our Ancestry DNA accounts, connect to a descendant of Tommy Weatherly and Martha ‘Mattie’ Boatwright Weatherly. There is no other way for us to connect to this person.

Cyntha Weatherly remarried to Alick Bates on 25 Dec 1871 in Leflore Co, MS. She had married Wm R Weatherly on Christmas Day as well. I have been unable to locate Julia Weatherly, the 10-year-old sister of Mathew and Tommy, listed on the 1870 census to find descendants to DNA test.

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
