Proper way to show step children
A woman (ID MVLB-QZ3) married in Germany and had two children. Her husband died, she emigrated to America and remarried. A contributor had identified her and the children born in Germany based on US census records, and identified them as step children. I have now merged the families and the children have two identities as biological children and step children. What is the proper way to show these individuals in the Family Tree?

Hi Gerry The woman, Caroline Marie Sieveking, MVLB-QZ3, is shown correctly as having 2 husbands. Some of the children on the other hand seem to be duplicated. Any children that are duplicated should be merged. Then each child should be shown with the proper set of parents. Those you want to show as step children would be shown with their biological parents and then again, using the same ID, with the couple where they are stepchildren. And for each parent child relationship you would designate the type of relationship, biological, step, etc. with each parent. In your case, the children would be shown as biological to their mother and biological to their biological father and step to their step father. But in all case, they should have the same ID. Here are the instructions for setting the relationship type.
