I would like to know if anyone can help me find my GGGGrandfathers parents?

My GGGGrandfathers name is Donald Stuart/Stewart and has Irish/Scottish blood I believe.

He was born about 1819 in Scotland, U.K. and died in Hastings, New Zealand. Unknown date

It was believed he sailed from Scotland on a whaling ship to New Zealand via Australia. He traversed inland on the East coast of New Zealand for work and married a Maori cheifs daughter Merehoka Takamoana for her land dowry about 1844 in Hastings, New Zealand. They had a son. Panapa Tuari.

    My goodnes Brett.

It is the first and only likely connection.

    I am such a novice.

Thank you so much for this and now I begin taking some bricks down one at a time.

I asked my neice who begain research 10 + yrs ago and came to this brick wall. She mentioned a Barnabas Stewart. Likely that Donald named his one and only son after Barnabas (Panapa) So, now we have something to go by.

    Im ever so grateful.

Ask and it shall be given !! After seeking for many years.

    Thanx Pauline

I cannot say for certain they they are what you wanted; but, they looked pretty good.

    .

There were many Donald "STUART's" or "STEWART's" born in Scotland between 1815 and 1825. And, I DID NOT even check in "Ireland" [ FYI: Irish Genealogy = https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ ( Even the "images" of Records are FREE to access/look at ) ]

    .

It may be worth you re-checking in "ScotlandsPeople", it is a great resources and FREE to 'Register' and 'Search' the 'Indexes' (ps: Years ago it even cost just to 'Search' the 'Indexes'). It only costs if you want to look at the "Image" of a Record. It is a "Website" maintained by the Government of Scotland.

    .

And, that "Website" for the 'On-Line', Registry of Births, Death and Marriages for New Zealand is also FREE to 'Search' the 'Indexes'.

    .

I could not find, a "Marriage" for him; or, the "Birth" of the Son; but, with that OTHER name of "Barnabas", I will have a quick look.

    .

Plus, with that NZ "Website" with some 'magic' enables one to find the exact 'Date' of, "Birth"; "Death"; or, "Marriage" - I will find the 'Date' of "Death" for the above.

    .

And, 'Yes', that is what this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum is all about = Users/Patrons HELPING Users/Patrons.

    .

I will get back to you in this post.

I still could not fin the "Birth" of the Son, using "Barnabas".

    .

I did work out the 'Date' of "Death" for the above "Donald MacNaughton STUART" it was 12 May 1894.

    .

    Enjoy.

    Oh Hi Brett,

We have decided to go to the NZ gravesites as we have connected this particular Donald Stuart to the Minister of Knox in Christchurch, N.Z. We need to just search for the Place of Death, because the dates are closest to our Donalds birthdate. There are so many. We need to search for more children, because he was in his 40s by the looks of things when he had his known son Panapa Tuari (Barnabas Stuart). He married the cheifs daugher for her land dowery so thats a clue. There will be a document on his ownership somewhere but whether that had his correct D.O.B. and even a full name . We need access. Will soldier on. We are at the mortar. Thanks again.
