Swiss Baptism records in the 1600's

Does anyone know if there is a way to tell the sex of an unnamed child on a baptism record from this time and place? The sex is not indicated in the indexed records available in Family Search, but in the actual image, there is often a little mark next to the name. Does anyone know what that little squiggle means? It seems strange to me that the sex of a child would not be written somewhere in the record.

    @PammyLou Does the squiggle look anything like either of the gender symbols shown in the Wikipedia article Gender symbol?
