Recommended project for AI indexing of Croatian records
Hi,
How can I recommend a project for AI indexing? I've been working with two small villages in Croatia whose records were never indexed, and which would be difficult to index because part of the records were written in Croatian Glagolitic, which hasn't been widely used for hundreds of years. I am desperate enough to know what these records say that I am going to pay for my own transliteration through the University of Zadar, which has a department that specializes in Glagolitic. But that just benefits me. Can we prioritize AI indexing of these Croatian records while there are still experts in the world who can verify and/or refine the AI indexing? The two villages that I know of that have records in Glagolitic are Vrpolje (near Sibenik) prior to about 1770, and Krapanj who has 10 to 15-year periods of birth and marriage records written in Glagolitic during the 1600s.
Thank you!

FS does not take suggestions. To have records indexed, FS must have a contract with the record administrator(s).

Thank you, @erutherford, but the FamilySearch support line suggested I post here when I spoke with them about it earlier today. FamilySearch does have the records—they have just not been indexed yet.

@sperlic3881635 Yes, FS has microfilmed and digitized the records, but that does not indicate they have the specific rights/permissions to index them.

@Áine Ní Donnghaile Okay, that makes sense. But my question still stands: how do I request that they be indexed by AI so that the information can be readily available? Surely FamilySearch must have a process for attaining rights and assigning indexing priorities, or they would not have sent me to this forum to make my request (hopefully).

As already mentioned, FamilySearch does not accept requests from users. It doesn't matter if it is AI or by humans - the rights/permissions for indexing have to be in the contract with the record holder/creator. FS does not share details of those contracts.

You could try writing to the FamilySearch Library using the email address in the link
but with the expectation you may not get a positive response. However, if you emphasise that not many people can read the records, and those that can will not be alive for ever, perhaps there may be more interest.
