The image numbers shown in the image viewer seems to change randomly
I have just noticed that the image numbers do not stay consistent from one session to the next. I just refreshed my page, and the image number for the same exact image shifted by one. Can we not rely on image numbers to reference a certain page in a film that has no page numbers on the document?
The film number I'm seeing this with now is:
Registri ecclesiastici di Calatafimi (Trapani),
Pubblicazioni 1725-1899

@Nick Reddan Memorial #14118 is (today) found on image 516. Your linked page to your project says image 525. Was it previously a different number and when? I need accurate data to report to the engineering team.

@Joe Pisano @Nick Reddan and others,
This issue is now resolved.

I also see the same problem of changing individual image numbers and the total image number of the collection in the same session by clicking and re-clicking on the saved URL. This is making it difficult to create an accurate citation with way points for images without a FamilySearch-provided citation.
I've attached 3 images of the same film. It is not the only film that this problem exists.

Same problem with us.
Several indexers of Familiekunde Vlaanderen Land van Waas report this.A created link fortunately always refers to the correct act but the page numbering and the indication of the total number of pages can change. In some click versions of the same film pages can be too short.

Oh that is terrible — so there is no unique way to specifically reference these pages? I hope they can resolve this at some point.

In a recent discussion on this issue, a moderator had indicated the problem was resolved. I haven't seen the issue recently, but I'll flag on that post.

I saw on older post from 15-11-2024
At the bottom it shows 2 URL with a different number of images:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSVT-8SC5-W?i=728
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSVT-8SCG-W?view=explore&groupId=TH-909-70991-62043-66&grid=on
The first one keeps on changing the number of images if you wait for a while before clicking on the URL again. The second one is consistent in displaying the number of images which I think is the correct number.
Problem is I am a regular user using the system as such and always end up with the first URL.
As of today I noticed in several films I looked for regarding Indonesia that the number of images keeps on changing up and down.
This seems an older problem which hasn't been fixed yet and it's spreading now because this is a recent problem to me. Didn't encountered it before.

I am having the same problem. Used Film 2017336/DGS5409442 yesterday and finished with image 669, the cover page for material re wedding of Agostino Aglieri-Rinella & Anna Giuffre. Today when wanted to resume where I left off, I found a different document at that image number—yesterday's image 669 document now appears as image 649. I have used Family Search for years and this happened once before in my experience, sometime last year. And you fixed it quickly!😀

On my site https://irishdeedsindex.net I have over 50,000 links to individual images in the Registry of Deeds Ireland image set many of these links are broken as the image numbering has changed. This not good. See https://irishdeedsindex.net/mem.php?memorial=14118 where the image points to a page number 50 greater than it did previously

I have the same problem with registers from Uruguay, I thought that was because some program erase useless pages.

The page number now on image 525 is 415. The page number of the memorial number 14118 is 390 so the difference is 25 not 50.
I did not take a screen shot yesterday so do not know If the image numbers have changes again.

@SerraNola
When I located this Italian birth record about a week ago, I made a note that it was image 2316. Today it is image 603. This DGS doesn't have 2316 images. Is it possible these image number changes are caused by the project to split the DGS?
1 -
@Áine Ní Donnghaile Yes, and if you switch to the whole film, it is not 2316, but 2301. I expect the process of splitting may cause some fluctuation of numbers. I did look for that in these examples from users, but from what I can tell they have not been split.

For what it is worth - I had saved the URL, while viewing from the full film, with 2316 on my screen. When I revisited, using the same URL, it took me to 603.

@Nick Reddan Memorial #14118 is today - 12 May, found on image 522. Perhaps by tomorrow it will be back to 525?? I will try to find out what's going on.

Update: Engineers began working on this issue this morning.

Thank you @SerraNola.

@GASTONE FUSARO I can verify that the number of images for Film #7682903 did change with nearly every refresh when opened from the Catalog (Old Viewer). The number varied from 2516 to 2527. When opening in Images (New Viewer) the film numbers remained constant. I believe it is the same issue engineers are now working on and it seems likely that the error is only occurring in the old viewer.

@SerraNola this seems to be happening on all films with that same viewer, so hopefully they are working on fixing the viewer so that it will apply to all films?

I was just coming to say that I had checked a few of mine, and they all seemed to be corrected.
Thanks to the engineers for the prompt response!0 -
I have the same problem.
I am working on my family tree and using FamilySearch for Cornwall records as it has the best set of images. I have gone to the catalog, St Wenn Cornwall, and to the Parish Registers for St Wenn which come up in the church record list. The film number is 004168186. I used it Monday and referenced an image for 1777 as image 1312. To find his wife's burial in 1785 I knew to go further. However, when I first opened the images Tuesday, the 1777 burial was now image 1363. I opened the same film number another couple of times and the image number kept changing, as did the total number of images available. I now do not know how to reference this: it is a moving feast. I have attached screenshots to show what I mean.
