How to access records

In this link https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index?owc=MXVW-26D%3A987535601%2C987584001%2C987550002%3Fcc%3D1923402&cc=1923402

there are a group of records "Bautismos 1729-1940" but it is inaccessible, I suppose the reason is because there are records from 1900 - 1940. I need to search for a record from 1877 then I need to contact a person with the access privileges that allow me to made the search that I need, the same problem I have for other locations in Chambo, Pallatango, etc.

Then in resume: I need to contact a member of staff with the capacity to divide the films records or give me a time access to do my search.

I'm afraid the process doesn't work like that.

There is a project underway to break apart those DGS (formerly known as films) with long date ranges, but it's not possible to put one DGS at the front of the list.

And, some DGS will not be viewable due to contract restrictions or the laws/regulations of the country where the record was created.

@ByronValdivieso It appears that the only images available in the entire collection of Ecuador Catholic Church records are those in which the Item #'s have been separated. This keeps FamilySearch in compliance with contractual agreements, but unfortunately it forces researchers to wait for particular films to be released. At this time there is no person with access for you to contact.

    @Áine Ní Donnghaile @SerraNola

I have a proposal; If some one provide me with a training I could be a volunter to separate Ecuador Files,

I am a computer person, then to learn the process to divide films is not going to be difficult for me.

Let me know if you are interested.

@SerraNola I'm wondering, just for interest, is this splitting of image sets something FS is, or will be, using AI to help with?

Hi @MandyShaw1 I don´t think micro films can be splitting using AI, that must be doing by an Human.

@ByronValdivieso The microfilms have all been digitised already (microfilm is effectively a dead technology, not to mention a fire risk). If AI can enable Full Text Search on handwritten images (as we know it can, rather successfully) I'd have thought it could have a go at retrieving dates and splitting image sets up accordingly, also.

@MandyShaw1 When I say microfilm, I'm referring to the set of scanned images, not the physical media. I may be mistaken, but I understand that AI isn't currently capable of analyzing unindexed texts (the scanned document) directly.

@ByronValdivieso that is exactly what FS' Full Text Search does - uses AI to read unindexed images, mostly handwritten. Give it a try!

And the whole point of FS' AI based indexing initiative, as initiated recently to replace manual indexing, is (eventually, once the bumps on the road have been ironed out) to do the same thing - read unindexed images - and then convert the content into metadata, with human intervention at the review stage only.

@MandyShaw1 in Spanish too? Could you upload an image of how records from USA are? This is an example of a record from Ecuador 1888.

Definitely in Spanish, e.g. see the threads here in Community re the Family Review Get Involved initiative (the people engaged in Get Involved in general know far more about all this than I do, I'm just an interested observer, not based in the USA).

@ByronValdivieso @MandyShaw1 I can try to find out for sure, but it is likely these Spanish films are being separated as they are prepared for AI indexing. After they are indexed, they can be accessed by Family Review:

You will be given a record and can make corrections in spelling and in family relationships with the tools on the right:

AI indexing is far from perfect and will require many volunteers to improve the accuracy and searchability for researchers. Right now Family Review has only Spanish records available. Byron, your Spanish speaking skills are greatly needed—I do NOT recommend attempting to edit these records if you do NOT speak Spanish.

If you are not familiar with Family Review, from the FamilySearch home page click on "Get Involved" in the Header. Then click "Opportunities", then "Family Review":

Hi @SerraNola, Spanish is my native language, my poor English is my second language ;-)

I will see about family review and see what I can do for indexes corrections.

    about "…

AI indexing is far from perfect and will require many volunteers to improve the accuracy and searchability

…" I supposed there are a lot of errors because it is dificult to read for human too, I don´t think IA currently prepared to do a good indexing, but it is a good begining, congratulation to FS information department and FS projects department.

I am on Family review , I have a question, in the past instead of "y" they aparently used "i" Should the correction be done with correct grammar or literally to what is written?
