Historical Images

On Historical Images it is possible to see a map with pointers in a particular location such as a state. What do the pointers on the map indicate - the location where the copies were made or where the repositories resided? The numbers are, I think, the number of record collections?

    @Drew It is the place name found in the title of the collection or in other words, where the records were created.
