Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. I am particularly interested in finding a marriage/divorce about 1945-1951 in Louisiana.

It's a matter of some delicacy and I have absolutely no desire to ruffle any relatives' feathers. It needs to be put in the family record correctly, however. A relative deliberately seduced and married a man in Louisiana sometime about 1945-1950. The stories vary whether she did it to act as a 'beard' or with the intention of accusing him in a scandalous divorce of inappropriate behavior or simply to skin him of as much cash as possible. Doesn't matter. Her father went down to Louisiana, dragged her home (again), but obtained a large settlement which she later used to help buy a farm with her true love. Supposedly the victim was much older and wealthy. I know his name and where he was from and believe I have found him, but none of the available marriage records/divorce records are online. They may have been married in New Orleans where she was living. Can you get records for that period? Any advice on proving the marriage/divorce? Is there a statewide resource for indexes?

It's sad when stories about relatives can affect others opinions are about their family members. I wonder if this is a situation where things are best left as they are, some skeletons are better left in the closet. You may want to scroll through the list of images from Louisiana located in FamilySearch at:

I dont want to look at all the images, but look for the record type to see if there is a set of images that can help you.

@carolyocom1 im not sure if youll be able to find those records online. however, you may be able to find them listed in city directories or voter registrations? you can check Louisiana probate records at fs also, but im not sure which years are covered. Good luck!
