How do I access original records that show up as a Legacy NFS Source? There's a brief description of the record, but no link. It would be helpful to see what the original record really is and says.

I found a FamilySearch Wiki page that may help you to find sources that have been deleted from FamilySearch.

@scotty spohr As always, it really helps if you post a specific example. Unfortunately, I highly doubt that the wiki page referred to above has any information about your actual question.

Assuming what you mean are sources on a FamilyTree profile's source page that has the title "Legacy NFS Source," then these are sources a user created in New Family Search, the immediate predecessor to Family Tree. That family tree database's citation system was not very good. You could choose a couple of category types of what kind of source you were using, what information on the person is being cited, type in some brief text, and that was about it. You could not include any type of link to the actual source you were looking at. It was pretty useless. Family Tree's citation and sourcing system is a tremendous improvement.

There is nothing more to access and no original records you can get to unless the user who typed in the citation figured out a way to put in far more information that the average user did. The vast majority of the time when I find these, I just detach them from the profile.

However, if you are looking at a couple that look like they might lead somewhere, please post the ID of the profiles they are on and maybe there is some information that can be teased out.

You could try an All Collection Search and see if that comes up with older records. It comes up with IGA records and such.

No, really, these Legacy sources rarely if ever have any connection to any FamilySearch record collection.

I was able to find someone that I knew had a lot of work done in New Family Search who had several of these legacy sources that were detached.

Here are a few examples. One is well done and actually useful. The rest are the more typical useless ones:

Of these, only the first is helpful. It was deleted after finding the FamilySearch system source for the census and attaching that. The rest are not actually sources and were just deleted.
