Merging only selected family members

In the new merging experience, is there no longer an option to choose which family members you want to stay attached to the surviving profile?
For instance, I came across today a family… Henry Fry, a wife Ally Estes, and 5 children, all imported via GEDCOM. The children were all born in Rowan County, NC. There was a Henry Fry with these 5 children in Rowan County. But his son Henry was married to an Allie. And it was Allie Briggs, not Allie Estes. Allie Estes was married to a completely different Henry Fry in Missouri.
But these people are always convoluted into random, incorrect families on Ancestry.com. There are no checks & balances there so no one knows their tree is wrong. And then they import that incorrect tree here.
In my mind, I would merge the children into the children of the correct Henry Fry in North Carolina and then merge Allie Estes into the existing Allie Estes, wife of the other Henry Fry in Missouri. That way, if someone has recorded her ID number in Legacy Family Tree, for instance, and they come back to her, they will see that she is the wife of a different Henry Fry.
During this merge, I would obviously not want to keep the children connected to her. They were not her children.
Is there a way to do this in the new merge experience?

@redheadkelly thank you for the feedback. This helps immensely in tweaking lab projects. Can you provide PID's for the profiles that you are looking at?

@redheadkelly Update: the merge tool is not meant to be a merge and clean up at the same time. However, there are some changes happening in the near future that should help show where clean up needs to occur before a merge. Thank you for your patience :)
