My great grandfather, Balthasar Michel, was born in 1829-1832 in Alsace-Lorraine, he was French. His father was Lorenz Michel and his mother was Elisabeth Engel. His parents were born in France. Where in Alsace-Lorraine can I write to to find out more? He was Catholic. One piece of information that I got was he was from Lengelsheim and now I see Lingolsheim, which are 2 different cities in basically the same region of northeastern France. Can anyone help me narrow this down? Thank you for any help.

The online departmental Archives of Haut-Rhin are an excellent place to research families from Alsace.
