Why are the original records not available at FamilySearch libraries after being "indexed"?

    Could you give us a little detail about which records you seek, please? The answer will depend on the type and location of records and other factors.

    FamilySearch must abide by the contract with the individual record holder/creator. Some will want only to have the records digitally preserved but not available to the general public. In other cases, there may be privacy restrictions for a period of time, and the records will become available after the limit has passed. Or, if the records have been recently indexed, they may still be in post-processing. There's no single answer to your question.
