There should be the option to bring information from the left side ID to the surviving ID. For example in merging 9KFT-VRD and P947-F9S, the birthdate was not moved over to the surviving ID.

Again referencing the above comment: The 1835 birth date was moved to the surviving ID. The merge screen should show that this information is being saved; the grayed out date gave the impression that the information would not be saved.
