I find a "Relatives at RootsTech", add them to my contact list, and then try to use the contact icon at the top to message them. I keep being told "Unable to Message This User". I have tried it for many different relatives. I have updated my Chrome browser. I have checked my profile. How do I contact them? Kerry Farmer

I looked you up in Relatives at RootsTech, and was not able to chat with you, even though I have successfully chatted with many other participants in R@RT. That means that you are not able to chat either because you are under 18, or because you have not specified your birth date in your account settings (most likely the latter).

Fix your birthdate information, and you should be able to chat (assuming you are over 18) throughout FamilySearch, including R@RT.

Chat within the RootsTech Relatives list is working fine in my mobile app (well, as far as composing a chat message - I haven't tried to actually send the message). This is both direct and via adding to the Contacts list.

Is Chat working for you more generally?

Or is it just sending the message that is failing? If so I can try to find a RootsTech Relative that I know personally and send them a test.

Another couple of thoughts, if you are using the app, does it need updating? And, do you get the same problem on both your computer and the app?

Thanks Alan. I have been able to chat to Relatives at RootsTech in previous years but yes I needed to fix my birthdate in Account settings. Even when I had that done though it continued to not work until I logged right out of R@R and FamilySearch etc, closed my Chrome and then opened again and logged in. (Using an old tab didn't work.) Many thanks for the suggestion and helping me fix this frustration. Kerry
