how to delete erroneous info in tree and on roots tech info for me....????
My Great Grandfather was James Mcdermott b.1821 d. 1900….someone incorporated his info and image into another tree some years back….now it's not only on your site but Ancestry and Find a Grave…giving him new wifes, new children and lineage that is I believe erroneous…and now it's on Roots Tech…none of which is sourced…..I have to say it's frustrating. You have him confused with James Hugh Mcdermott…maybe similar info….no one seems to care about getting it right….what say you, Lynn Reilly
Some facts: Born in Co Roscommon 1821, the only middle initial was on an census was the letter B. (not Hugh)…one of his siblings was Catherine, the other James did not have a sister by that name, my James had 3 sisters, the other had 9 siblings….My James had one wife named Catherine Keigher, kid's were Thomas 1856,Charles F. 1859, MaryJane 1862, Margaret Josephine 1869 her twin Ellen, and Kathryn 1870…..the other James had 5 children (Michael 1854, Tom 1855,Honor 1857, Mary 1858 and Henry 1861

You correct his information by you, personally, going to his Family Tree profile page and correcting it. You are right, you might be the only one who cares about getting it right but that is what we users do here on Family Tree, care about our ancestors and carefully tend their Family Tree profiles.
Here is some starting information:
andBe sure to add every possible source you can to his profile. Since there is erroneous information out there that you need to guard against, you will want to follow his profile by clicking the star next to the Follow link in the profile banner so you are notified when anyone else makes a change on his page.
If he is confused with another James, it can really help to do as much research on that other James as possible and create a profile for him that is also thoroughly documented, sourced, and with the correct parents, spouses, and children.
Also, through the Chat system you might be able contact other contributors to discuss what all of you know about the two different James and work together to fix both profiles.
All RootsTech information is pulled right from Family Tree so when you correct Family Tree that will fix problems with RootsTech.
On of the great advantages of FamilyTree is that your great-grandfather has only one profile and you have full access to that profile unlike Ancestry and other sites where incorrect informations gets spread to dozens of trees that you have no access to be able to correct anything.
Good Luck!
