I am a beginner with family search. A member of my ward suggested that I might find a connection to one of her lines. She said I should go to my tree, click on find, and enter the ID number. She gave me the ID number of a person from her line. I entered that number, but it found a different person than the person my ward member said it was. What did I do wrong?

Most likely one of you made a slight mistake in communication. It's easy to mistake a B for an 8, or a 5 for an S, or to mishear a number or letter.

I'd recommend that you try again, using only copy/paste and digital communication (e.g., your friend copies the ID, pastes it into an email to you, then you copy it from the email and paste it into Find By ID).
