How can I find info about a child born out of wedlock in Germany late 1890s?

I'm not sure what issues you are experiencing, but my experience has been to do your research the same regardless of marital status of parents. Search with whatever information you have in your possession whether you have just a child's name, a date or the names of one parent or two. In the German church records that I have read all children are recorded chronologically regardless of the marriage status of the parents. Sometimes there is a column noting the marriage status of the parents. In that case, the word illegitimate or legitimate will be noted. In German it might be written " unehelich (illegitimate) or ehelich (legitimate). I hope this is of some help.

@KathyMartinHarold Thumbs up to previous comment. Do you know the town where the child was born?

I am not sure. I believe it was either Lengenfeld or Chemnitz. Birthdate May 14, 1897 is what I have.

@KathyMartinHarold There are Catholic church records for Lengenfeld on FamilySearch, but only up to 1874. There are no evangelical records and I also did NOT find them on Archion or Ancestry. Chemnitz has thirteen evangelical churches. Some are found in this collection, but I didn't see anything later than the 1860's.
Sorry, I couldn't be of more help. If there are details you could share—such as when or if the child immigrated, if he was in an orphanage, etc., we might have other suggestions for where you might find information.
