Merges are dropping info

A few times today merging two people led to an unexpected consequnce: the connection to the parents was lost! I'm pretty sure I've done exactly the same thing I always do when I merge two records. It was only because I checked afterwards that I noticed they had been dropped from their parents.

It seems like something has changed. Has anyone else noticed this?
