Is something going on with wildcard search?

This search for first name "Mary" yields 42 results, 9 of which have "Jones" as the last name. However, if I add last name "J*" to the search parameters, no results are found. If I instead add last name "Jones" to the search parameters, all 9 are found.

Interestingly, if I add last name "*s" to the search parameters, it does return the 9 Jones results (along with 12 others). Last name "?ones" also yields 9 results. What's going on?

Others have commented on problems with wildcard searches, but I haven't seen them so far.
Windows 10, tested on Chrome and Firefox, all fully updated.

There definitely is. I posted this under the "Search" category yesterday and a number of people responded with the same issues. I'm still having problems but it seems to be concentrated to the last name field.

I put a comment in your other post, but Just for others who are stuck, the problem seems to be limited to Records Search, the All Collections Search still works with wild cards,

The surname field seems to be where the problems are happening.
