Newbie question: How to save a family tree, instead of starting over again each time?

Have tried to find an answer on the above. Most probably I overlooking it.
Right now, I already started all over again to create a family tree. When it is all there, I don't know how to save that, in a sense that the next time I can click on whatever button and the family tree that I have saved is back in screen.
A related question: is there a way to export all that is on screen? I bought RootMagic and hoped it would pull out the data van family search, but found out that it pulled out a part only (?) So I stopped using it.
I also have AldFaer that imports gedcom.
But first things first: how to save the family tree in the first place?
Searched for FAQ.
Many thanks!

Hi Mike There is no overall save button for the family tree. There are save buttons as you add and/or change information. I can see that you added Francina (PMYM-PLB) and Adrianus (PMYM-VRX) and linked them to their parents. I can see the tree from each of them back several generations. What I don't see is that you have ever linked yourself to your parents. Have you tried entering your parents? First step is to go to your person page. (see the link below). Once on the person page, select the details tab, go to the family members section, under parents and siblings, add your parents. If your parents are still living, then you will need to go to their person pages and add their parents. The person page is really the heart of FamilyTree or any genealogy program for that matter. I recommend you make changes from the person page and just make sure each person page is correct. For example, your own person page. You will see that it doesn't have your parents. If you make sure each person page is correct, then the tree follows. In other words, the tree is just a reflection of the information and relationships on individual person pages. So get your person page correct, followed by your parent's person pages, etc. As you get the person pages correct, you can check the tree to see that is also correct. If you are still struggling, then there is help available. In the upper right, there is a circle with a ? mark. Click on that, select contact us at the lower left, choose your area of the world to see the help options available.
Relative to Roots Magic. I use that myself. Once you get your tree square away, you can link Roots Magic and the tree together including downloading from Family Tree to Roots Magic.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions if needed.

Reading your question, "Right now, I already started all over again to create a family tree. When it is all there, I don't know how to save that, in a sense that the next time I can click on whatever button and the family tree that I have saved is back in screen." I can only assume that what you are actually asking is, "When I am on the landscape pedigree view and click on the arrow to see more than four generations, if I leave that page then when I return to it only four generations show again. Is there a way to keep that expanded view permanently open?" The answer to this is, no. That is not the way the page is designed.
If you want to see an entire pedigree tree at once and keep it open, you might want to play around with https://virtual-pedigree.fhtl.org/login and see if it gives you the type of display you want to see.
If I've misunderstood you question, please try asking it again and clarify what you mean.

Hi Wayland,
Many thanks for your elaborate reply.
Actually I am working on getting a family tree of my wife's family. Not mine. She and someone in the family were/are asking for it. Her family and relations goes back quite a while. Right now I 'expand' all relations (entire tree and male descendents and all) and create a long screenshot. The one I created an hour or so ago was some 260x80cm (say 6ft x 2,5ft), but … all that is gone the moment I leave Family Search or accidentally click on whatever button and leave the page. Dumb dumb dumb..
Reason for asking.
I'll give Roots Magic a try again.
Again, many thanks!0 -
Hi Mike Are you doing that on your Family Search account or does your wife have a family search account also. I don't see any of those changes on your account. But the same things apply. Make sure her person page is correct, especially in terms of relationships followed by her parent's person pages. Good luck.

The tree view on FamilySearch is more of a navigation aid than a full tree display. Trees just get too big too fast for it to be practical. The best overall view is seen with the seven generation fan chart.
It sounds like you need an independent chart app. There are a few in the FamilySearch Solutions Gallery: https://www.familysearch.org/en/innovate/solutions-gallery/
