Indexing City Directories: Is Rev considered a pre-fix that we enter?

    Yes, Rev. is a prefix and is indexed.

    It is shortened for Reverend. Just put in Rev like it says.

    I was taught that Rev is not indexed as a prefix because it is a job title, not a name prefix, which would be Mr/Mrs/Miss or titles on nobility in those countries that use them.

    Rev. is a title just as Dr. is. We can't say that Dr. isn't a title just because it's also that person's job title. When used before a name, a person is referred to that way because of his profession.
