Hi

Can anyone point me in the right direction to search the NZ "Intent to Marry" Index?

Also; Is there any way to access the actual NZ records of marriage or intent to marry (without buying a certificate)?

Many Thanks

Here's what I know….

From: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/New_Zealand_Civil_Registration

"If you believe a marriage took place but cannot find a record of the marriage, search Records of Intent to Marry notices from 1856 to 1920. These are indexed from early to1880. These notices provide a bit more information than that which is found in the certificates of marriage--including the name of the consenting adult for the minor and the length of residence. To find these in the Family Search Catalog, look in the Place Search under:

NEW ZEALAND - CIVILREGISTRATION"

I presume the official records for marriages are only available by purchasing a certificate or printout at nz BDM Marriage Search . Is that right?

Yes, as I wrote above, as shown on the Wiki for New Zealand

The originals can only be ordered from the Department of Internal Affairs: Births, Marriages, and Deaths, on the same site where indexes can be searched. Any other site that offers this service will mark up the price.

As shown on the Wiki for New Zealand

Civil records indexes are also on FamilySearch and other sites, but no images online. https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/2697870

As for Catalog, Place Search, New Zealand, Civil Registration. https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/results?q.place=New%20Zealand

and scroll down to Civil Registration

And Church marriage registers may include the banns (intent to marry).

I found the Intent to Marry Notices index online as shown below. Seems like the records themselves only exist in physical form in Wellington. I presume the official records for marriages are only available by purchasing a certificate or printout at nz BDM Marriage Search . Is that right?

    Thanks
