Why does my Attaching a Source no longer auto fill when linked with My Heritage records?
This stopped working after the maintenance session on 04 February 2025. I have tried everything suggested to fix it - disabling pop up blockers, deleting caches, checking security software, browser swapping, restarting the computer - had a session with a volunteer who had no idea why it wasn't working, put a request through to customer support - no response so far. I am ready to cancel my accounts if I can't resolve this very shortly, which would seem a pity when I have spent the last few weeks trying to support others' research..

Is your computer operating system the newest version available? Is your browser at the latest version available? The maintenance update may have dropped support for your particular configuration.
Have you contacted My Heritage? Maybe something on their end needs to be updated to match the FamilySearch update.
If you want the programmers to investigate why this has stopped working for you, you will need to post your computer and model, operating system and version, browsers and versions so a moderator here can pass the information on to the appropriate people.

Good morning. I found this knowledge article from FamilySearch.
How do I attach sources from MyHeritage to Family Tree?To attach MyHeritage sources to Family Tree, access MyHeritage from the link on the Person page. If you start the search from My Heritage rather than from FamilySearch.org, you cannot attach the sources to a person in Family Tree.
Steps (website)
- While signed in to FamilySearch.org, navigate to the Person page of an ancestor.
- Click the Details tab.
- In the Search Records box on the right, click MyHeritage.
- Click OK.
- Sign in to MyHeritage, if needed.
- Click your ancestor's name in the MyHeritage search results.
- Review the information.
- Scroll to the bottom of the record page, and in the lower left portion of the screen, click Attach source to FamilySearch.
- The source entry for FamilySearch.org appears with all fields auto-populated, except the reason statement.
- Add your reason statement.
- In "Select the Information or Events in this Source," click the box to the left of each item in the source.
- If you do not want the source in your Source Box, click to uncheck the box.
- Click Save.
I just tried it this way and it does work for me.

Thanks sc woz, I did find this article in my search for fixes - these are the steps I have done so many times - with success, and then it just stopped working at Step 9, with no auto fill happening.

'Maybe something on their end needs to be updated to match the FamilySearch update.'
Surely if that were the case FS would have liaised with MyHeritage about it in advance of going live - it shouldn't be up to an individual user to report such a situation to the third party (though it may be worth doing anyway as belt and braces).
Perhaps the mods could enquire whether there is known to be an outstanding MyHeritage fix for this. @Ashlee C.

I believe there is an LDS-member benefit with MyHeritage. How the results will filter in to the FS Tree will vary based on log-in from a public account or a church account.

They can't test everything. The program is too complicated, users use way too many types of setups of various ages, and they are not in charge of anything My Heritage does or does not do. Of course they are dependent on us users reporting hiccups that all possible standard testing never showed. And looking at all possible contributors to a problem is going to be the only way to solve some mysteries.

Thanks for your great suggestions and support. It seems to be a very complex issue. I have worked with a technician and it has been referred up the line. I have a new computer, up to date browser, pop ups enabled, cookies deleted, caches deleted, etc. It is proving very challenging.
What I did find accidentally was a tip about My Heritage that might be a clue:
Keep in mind that once a user opens up the MyHeritage search results from FamilySearch, modifying any of the original search terms that were pulled from the FamilySearch Person page will cause the source creation link to disappear. This occurs because the MyHeritage search feature can no longer confirm that you are still searching for the ancestor from the Person page that initiated the MyHeritage search.

@Gordon Collett I do get that, but my point wasn't about general regression testing, really, it was about impact analysis. If FS knows that certain aspects of the UI have MyHeritage (or other) integrations in place, then they need to take those integrations into account in planning enhancements that affect those areas of the system (and, if the context of an integration has changed, it needs to be re-tested).

@MandyShaw1 I agree. But based on what Virginia is going through there is apparently a rather unique set of circumstances that she has gotten caught up in and is only affecting a limited number of people (so far as we tell since the routine is working fine for sc woz by his report) which implies that no amount of impact analysis would ever have discovered it.
And of course there is also the complication that the routine may have been working fine when FamilySearch and MyHeritage developed the update and released it and it was not the FamilySearch maintenance update that broke it but rather, theoretically, a security update from Apple or Microsoft that blocks a particular type of high risk cross-website transfer of data.

Makes sense @Gordon Collett thanks.

Did any of the above work for you?

Not so far, I am still following up with both Family Search and MyHeritage, in the hope that technicians will be able to find a way to fix it. It is a pity, as I had a window of time to work on it, which is now closing.

Thank you, I really appreciate the support.

The interface between these two sites has suddenly begun working again, I am delighted. Whatever technical fix was needed, has been done. MyHeritage said it was at the Family Search end and this does seem to have been the case.

I am glad you were able to get it back working.
