I have looked at the 1900 census for Allen Witherell, Mollie (wife) and son, Otto S. Witherell. I found them in Chicago, Illinois. They have listed Otto L. The "L" is incorrect. If you look at the other letters, you will see it is an "S".

You don't need to notify anyone. You can edit the detail if you are sure of your facts.

The indexers did not have the benefit of comparing to other records. And, quite frankly, it looks as much like an "L" as the one in other names on that page that are clearly L. But, from other records for Otto and his parents, his middle name was Southerland, his mother's maiden name. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZV2-NQS and https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:H9D6-4RZM
