Why aren't there more batches to index?
Why aren't there more batches to index? it can't be that y'all are waiting for Roots Tech to begin in a month. There are many people out there who would like to do some indexing, including me. It's a crying shame to leave ones who are indexing, hanging. I know that there are other opportunities to help out, but I was right in the middle of doing a batch and I can't even finish indexing it. Please don't leave everything to AI. That is not a perfect system. I'd prefer to looking at a batch that had been done by humans instead of by some machine. Ya'll need to do better.

This was covered here:
@Ashlee C., this question has been asked multiple times in the last few days. Are you able to ask anyone what is going on?

Evidently, the people in Salt Lake don't care that they are leaving those of us who do indexing hanging. I know that there are other things that I can do and I've been doing other things on Family Search, but I left a batch and was going to go back to it the next day and finish it and now, I can't even open up the batch. It's a shame that Roots Tech is more important than those who are doing Indexing. I don't know who to contact in Salt Lake to find out what is going on. This is getting to be beyond a joke. Somebody needs to tell us what is going on else more and more posts are going to be asking what is going on and why aren't there more batches that need indexing.

@lbsparrow I'm sorry you couldn't re-open the batch you'd left for the next day; that is so frustrating and discouraging. There's lots of reasons why there aren't more batches available right now. Have a great day 😍 We appreciate your efforts and contributions

'There's lots of reasons why there aren't more batches available right now.'
Speaking as an interested observer, not an indexer.
I think the trouble is that people don't know what these reasons are.
FS' data is a collaborative enterprise and its vast cohort of indexers are an essential element of its success.
Presumably, even if AI takes over the initial indexing, human review will still be in place; and I would imagine there would be an element of parallel running before that.
I would suggest that keeping indexers properly informed of future plans, or temporary hiatuses, in a timely manner is the absolute least FS can do here.

I’m sorry but I have the same question and reading comments I still am non the wiser as to why there are fewer projects and some cases no projects to open?

You can always contact them and ask. I did that a week ago and was told that FS will be switching to full-time AI at some point.

thanks for your comment I will do that.

I don't believe Ai will ever be able to adequately and accurately index the many nuances of genealogical records (both handwritten and typed). If so, there will necessitate a greater need for reviewers.
Just like the "wonderful" self-driving vehicles that are supposed to be the end all to driving, I can't see Ai being as talented as a skilled indexer.
Maybe on typed records but that is all.

hello ,
I'm also in the dark as to why there are no more names to process in indexing. Like the others I would like more to do.
I would also appreciate some simplification of the instructions given on Family Search . I seem to be going around in circles.
I loved the detailed acknowledgement of our contributions to the work of gathering. It's satisfying to know that we are making a difference by working together.

FS is switching to full-time AI at some point and there will be communication when it does. It could also be because Roots Tech is coming up. I suggest contacting FS for more information.

If you have questions regarding instructions, you can always post your question(s) here.1 -
There are other sites that need indexing or transcribing. https://billiongraves.com/dashboard i believe send the results to Family Search, there is also https://crowdsourcing.freedomonthemove.org/ or

I was not aware of other sites for indexing. So are these sites linked FS and if so how do we know these sites are safe if FS has not shared these links that I am aware of.

Billion Graves is associated with FS. Billion Graves, Freedom on the Move, From The Page and National Archive's Citizen Archivist are all safe to use. I'm currently doing Virginia WWII projects on From The Page and Japanese Relocations on National Archives.
