How do I create a research group for a geographic region
I specialize in a small district at the Hungary-Slovakia border equivalent in size to a US county and would like to create a research group for the 200 plus folks I have in a facebook group as I'l like to work with them here rather than on facebook.
I'd like to work with someone to help me create a group for these folks so I can help them with their trees and also help others to find the group.
I'm the lead researcher in this district and do both paper and genetic genealogy. I have my certificate in genealogy from Boston U.
I get at least half a dozen enquiries between ancestry and familysearch msgs each month.
If you check my stats you'll see I'm pretty prolific working profiles on familytree :}
Thanks very much.

First - if you see my reply while you can still edit your original post (4 hours), please edit to remove your telephone number. This Community is not private, so you have effectively broadcast your number to the world. Mods normally edit to remove personal info, but it's unlikely that a mod will see your post before Monday morning.
Only staff can create a research group. We users can request the creation of a group, but we cannot create one.
Hope this helps.1 -
BTW - there is a group for Austro-Hungarian Empire Research.

FamilySearch has "Family Groups", which is essentially a group messaging function; would that serve your purpose?
(I'm only part of one such group, and it's mostly moribund, so I don't know how it really works. The group is much smaller than yours — 16 members — but has a similar focus: people with ancestors from the town of Szarvas.)

This may be a bit of a longshot but you may consider going to the FamilySearch home page and clicking on the "New Chats Available" icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen and enter in "Hungary" and/or "Slovakia" and see if there are any chat groups that have been created by someone with a common interest. I guess you could also consider forming your own group, list the information you are interested in learning more about and see if someone joins and contributes.
Just a quick thought.

@Randall Jay Philpot, there's nothing even remotely like "New Chats Available" on either version of my home page.
The closest I can get is to click the Chat button next to the bell, up top, but I don't need to be on the home page to do that, and there's still nothing labeled anything like "new chats available".
(Neither "Hungary" nor "Slovakia" yielded anything useful as search terms in Chat's search box.)
