Hi!

When trying to access the 1911-1923 birth records for Nocera Umbra in Perguia, Italy (https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/835192), I am now getting a message saying that the image is unavailable for viewing online, when I was previously able to access it with no issue. Any help/insight here is greatly appreciated :”(

I can access the images. There have been some issues with images on the website recently so it is worth trying again. If you are still having trouble, I suggest you try the following:

    1. Have you turned your computer off since lasttrying? If not, then reboot.
    2. Try using a different browser.
    3. Check that your browser is up-to-date (e.g. forChrome, click on the three vertical dots on the far right, click Help, click About Google Chrome).
    4. Clear FamilySearch cookies - go to link below
    5. Make sure your pop-up blocker is not causingissues (for Chrome this is the 3 dots again, Settings, Privacy and Security,Third Party Cookies – if you have blocked third-party cookies then go to Sitesallowed to use third party cookies, Add, [*.]familysearch.org).
    6. Check your internet speed. One way to do this isto use the link below . A download speed of 5 Mbps and upload speed of 3 Mbps is regarded as the minimumInternet subscription rate for FamilySearch to operate properly. 10 Mbps and 5Mbps respectively is preferred.

@Graham Buckell, my experience matches Bethany's.

Were you using an LDS account or a public one like mine when you tried it?

(The dishonesty of the access messaging hurts in many ways.)

And I checked when Bethany first posted - my screenshot would be the same as Julia's.

There have been recent access changes for some Italian records. Cousin Vinny has a good post on the details in the Italy Research Group.

I had some of my friends try accessing the documents too, and they’d get the same message as Julia and I. I’m not an LDS member, nor do I know anyone that is. I checked Antenati after reading Cousin Vinny’s post—they’re not on there either (at least I wasn’t able to find them). :/

Do you have an FSC (FamilySearch Center) nearby? You may be able to see there - or ask the volunteer in charge for help.

Oh looks like I do, thank you!! I’m not on FamilySearch very often so I thought there were only centers in SLC!

@Bethany2387, unfortunately under the new agreement with the Italian State Archives those records will not be viewable on FS by a regular FS patron, even at an FS center. I believe LDS church members might be able to view the images using their LDS church account.

Antenati has not published images for all of Perugia yet. Nocera Umbra is in the Spoleto section of Perugia and you can see they plan to publish them at some point (but there is no estimated date):

Really annoying that only LDS members can view them now, thank you :(

Sounds as if a visit to your local FS center is called for, where a LDS staff member/volunteer may be able to retrieve the material you want (though I would check with them before travelling).

That's the choice of the record holders, not a decision made unilaterally by FamilySearch.

I’m not placing the blame on any particular entity, just lamenting my frustration on the general situation

That is curious. I was able to access the records using my public account. Just tried again and I still can!

@Graham Buckell The overview shows a camera, indicating available to view, but clicking on the camera brings up the Image Unavailable page.
