Record already attached to a different ID...?

When I try to index records, I often find what I've shown in the attached screenshot. Is there anything I can or should do in this situation? Thanks!

Hi @judiqp. When this happens, you must determine if it's a duplicate or was attached to the wrong person.

If the record is a duplicate, merge the two together:

If the record was linked to the wrong person, simply detach it from the erroneous ID and then connect it to the right one: https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-move-sources-to-a-different-person-in-family-tree

@judiqp Your screenshot is of the Source Linker in the Family Tree. You're attaching records to profile in the Tree.

That's not the same process as indexing. Indexing is when you work in the Indexing Projects to make records easier for other people to find by transcribing/extracting the names in a record.

Besides the answer given above that lists two ways to approach this, keep in mind a third possibility which is that the source you are trying to attach does not belong to the people you are trying to attach it to. In that case, close the source linker, go back to the page you were on, and mark the hint as not a match.
