1950 Census location indexed wrong

I'm reviewing some relatives and noticed that the 1950 US Census for New York is listing them as living in "Richmond, Ontario, New York, United States." The "county" box on the census documents lists "Richmond." As indexed, "Ontario" is the county. In fact the county of Richmond in New York is actually the borough of Staten Island. I don't know how extensive this error is, but it surely is important.

@xklem Probably not an indexing error but a post-processing error. You'll see many threads on the topic.

@SerraNola please. I've also noticed Staten Island being miscategorized by the place auto standardizing algorithm.

@xklem Thank you. This is a pretty common standardization issue: changing a county to a town. In this case, it's a pretty big error considering the population of Staten Island. I have it in the neighborhood of 214,000 showing up in Ontario County.
