Why doesn't my wife shown up as my wife or as a relative?
View relationship shows my wife as an error & my wife's sister shows as my distant cousin but my wife doesn't show as distant cousin. Two different questions.

There have been some (apparently ongoing) changes recently in the relationship calculator, see various recent relevant threads here in Community.

In general, the relationship calculator shows only the shortest relationship path. Some of the tree management apps available in the Solutions Gallery will allow you to view multiple relationships.

Agreed that the calculator shows the shortest relationship path but it doesn't show my wife as my wife.

The relationship to your spouse has always been handled as a special case — it shows a relationship via a common ancestor. That is a very reasonable choice, since the relationship as a spouse is completely obvious, but many people want to know how they are related to their spouse as some sort of cousin.

The calculator doesn't show the shortest way to a relative sometimes & this is why I posted. It would show my wife as an error & then not show some of her family through her. It would go through 10 cousins through my line. thanks for the replies.

As you will know there have been many discussions of relationship calculator matters here on Community in the last week or so. The developers appear to have made changes to the logic (with neither warning nor explanation), and these appear to have had some strange results, as exemplified above. It would really help if they could explain the overall objective(s) of the changes, so that Community users can be clear when something that has been observed is intentional (feature) and when it is not (bug).

As I read through these comments, I am seeing two concerns:
1. The original about the spouse not showing related. This has been answered a couple of times and is still on the list for the engineers to look at further. It is not a new problem and has existed since we started showing relationships years ago. Not sure when this might be resolved.2. Whether the relationship viewer is showing the shortest path or not. There actually were some changes made on 10 Dec 2024 where the path to a person through your family, even if it was longer, takes precedence over a shorter path through your spouse because of some feedback we had received. There are some who prefer it one way and others who prefer the other way. While we would love to allow the option, it is harder to implement. Engineers and others are discussing. It might take some time.

The relationship viewer should be showing the shortest path again even if it is through your undivorced spouse's line.
The other issue about your spouse not showing related is still on the list to investigate.1
