What exactly is indexing? Adding people and highlighting text count?

I mean, I spent some time adding people and highlighting the text in a source. After that I still got the message "this source is not yet indexed". Isn't it indexing?

Is there some kind of delay for the system to recognize the manual indexing?

Indexing is transcribing data in old documents to the indexing program. It can only be done through the Family Search indexing program.
