So — why was George Washington born in 1731 in the Julian calendar and yet the date shown in the article correctly shows as 1732 in the Gregorian calendar. Hint: It has to do with March 25.

Great question.
The date recorded in a Bible that belonged to family recorded Washington's date of birth as 11 February 1731/2 indicating he was born in the year 1732 by the Gregorian Calendar, which uses January 1 as the first day of each new year, but was born in 1731 by the Julian Calendar which uses March 25 as the first day of the year. To translate the Feb 11 date to the Gregorian Calendar 11 days has to be added making Washington's date of birth Feb 22, 1732 by the Gregorian Calendar.
One of my goals is to get the date of birth for Joseph Hewes, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, that is read-only file, corrected. There are two different dates of birth in that profile, June 23 and Jan 23 and neither one is correct. His parents were Quakers and they recorded his birth as 28 4th month 1730—March being the 1st month and thus June was the 4th month — he was born on 28 June 1730 by the Julian Calendar or (after adding 11 days) 9 July 1730 by the Gregorian Calendar.
