I am having trouble creating a family group tree.

I hit “create group” from https://www.familysearch.org/groups/family

I check “By joining, you agree to share your contact name and portrait with group members and those who are invited to join the group.” and create the group. I never get the option to create a tree like it says in . I don’t ever see the “view tree” option and I never see “turn on the family group tree option” as described in https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/family-group-tree-pilot/article/how-do-i-add-people-to-a-family-group-tree. I have created 3 family groups and none of them let me create a tree. btw - I am very new and just have 2 living relatives on my tree and 2 dead relatives.

You can only create a Family Group Tree if you have turned on the FGT experiment in Labs. But unfortunately, the FGT experiment is no longer available under Labs (until recently, it has been available there for several months). I don't know if that is a temporary condition, or if the experiment will remain off until the FGT feature is publicly released. But at least for now, it is impossible for you to participate in FGT if you are not already participating.

The Labs page has not been working for several days. See:

@Rodney7926 It appears that the experiments on the Labs page are working again. So try the steps again to enable the Family Group Trees experiment and I think you'll be successful now.
