I am helping a friend with family history. She accidentally did something to disconnect her husband's family tree from hers. Are there steps she can take to reconnect them?

Yes. Anything she changed will be shown in the changelog (down the right side of each person's profile).

We can't see her profile or her husband's, since they are living, so we can't see the specifics, but a quick review of the changelog should show you, or a researcher with a bit of experience, what has occurred to break the connection between their family branches.
