Translation Request - 1 May 1908 Marriage Record of Adam Elgert and Jakobine Flemke
Dear ancestry colleagues,
I am trying to break-down an ancestry brick wall, i.e., determine who my paternal great-grandparents where? They would be my paternal grandfather, Adam Elgert Sr parents. I had numerous personal interactions with him in Germany before he died.
He was born on 3 Aug 1879 in Gorki, Kreis Leslau (Wloclawek), West Prussia (Russia Poland); the latter Birth information was included in a copy of his Death Certificate (he died 9 Nov 1973 in Espelkamp, Minden-Lübbecke, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). However, I still have not found his Russia Poland Birth Record; finding his Birth Record equals finding the names of his parents! So, I had a virtual genealogy consultation with a research specialist trying to find the location of Gorki. The result was too-many-to-count Gorki’s. The research specialist commented that “We need some more information to narrow down the right place of birth. What I suggest is to get the marriage record translated. The marriage record will provide the names of his parents and give a more specific place of birth for your ancestor. From there we can try to locate his birth record.”
The Marriage Record, written in Russian Cyrillic cursive, is attached here. He married Jakobine Flemke on 1 May 1908 in Neudorf, Dunow, Gostynin, Warszawa, Russia Poland. I have my grandmother’s Russia-Poland Birth Record; she was born on 14 Jan 1890 in Domb Maly, Wloclawek, Russia Poland. Her parents were Johann (Jan) Flemke and Julianna Czens.
As the research specialist suggested, the problem lies in the fact that the Marriage Record is written in Russian; however, if translated into English, it should lead to the conformation of her parents, but important, who Adam Elgert Sr parents were! Also, his parent names would help further support the Direct Ancestor / DNA Connections I share with my grandfather’s three (may be more) brothers who lived in the US.

Here is the information from the record:
Date reported: 3 May 1908, Nowa Wies
About the groom: Adam Elgert, single, born in Białotarsk [this is another town in Gostynin], son of the farmer Michal Elgert and Adolfina (maiden name Jobs), 28 years old
About the bride: Jakobina Flemke, single, born in Domb Maly, daughter of the farmer Jan Flemke and Julianna (maiden name Chenz), 18 years old
Looks like there are some records on FamilySearch for Białotarsk, but the only parish in the city itself was a Catholic one:
Might be worth checking on Szukaj w Archiwach, the Polish State Archives website, to see if there's anything else for the town!
The advice from the others who have commented is really good about getting help from one of the research groups. I would recommend the Polish Research group here on the Community (https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/157-poland-research). There are a few very active people on that group who do Russian translations!

THANK YOU Soooooooooooo MUCH for your help translating the Marriage Record, which not only provides who my paternal grandfather’s parents were (my great-grandparents), but also corrected the location of his place of birth!! His Death Certificate stated Gorky, Gostynin, Russia Poland. AND thank you for supplying web links and information of the Polish Research FamilySearch Community, which would have direct ability to answer my questions about Ethnic Germans living in Russia Poland. Plus, help in the translation of Polish and Russian written documents.

You may have better luck asking in a research group. I don't really know enough about Prussia to know which group would be best to ask in, since there's no Prussia Research group. Prussian history seems… complicated.

Thank you for your suggestions; however, my request is for a translation of the attached Russian-written Marriage Record of my paternal grandparents to English, which was recorded in the Spring of 1908 in Nova Wies, Gostynin, Russia Poland.
