How can the "preferred family" always have priority and be displayed 1st before other previous marriages on the persons "detailed" page?

Spouses are sorted in the Family Members section first by event date, if available, and then alphabetically by name. The per-user "preferred" setting has no effect on the display order.

Since "no date" and "no event" are sorted at the end of the list, you can achieve what you want by only entering a marriage date for your preferred couple — but this will of course only work if there aren't other relatives who have different preferences.

Thank you both for the help. I figured it would be that answer but wanted to be sure.

Marriages are displayed in the order of the marriage date. The preferred flag is used for pedigree views and on printed family group records.
