United States, Georgia, Lincoln Catalog - Finding "Bond Book 26"
I am looking into the Lincoln County Georgia catalog and have seen reference (index listings) to a guardianship "Bond Book 26" "page 76" (Mirse, Abner) but cannot seem to find the book containing that data. Into which of the many categories of records in the Lincoln County catalog should I be looking?
Thanks,
D Killgore

The film you need is Guardian bonds 1821-1959, Lincoln County, Georgia—Film # 008192037
Book 26 starts on image 105. It covers 1839-1848. Page 76 is found on image 167. The record shows Dudley, Archibald, and Joseph Stinson signing a bond relating to Dudley being guardian of Alexander and William, orphans of Jacob Mirce (?). The index at the beginning of the book shows the record under “Dudley Stinson & others”, not under the Mirse/Mirce name. Hope this is what you are after.

I sincerely appreciate your prompt and precise response! This answers my question exactly and it was a great help. A recopied or new index elsewhere created some years in the past in the Lincoln County Georgia court system made it appear there was a third brother (Abner) to Alexander and William Miree. It, however, was a misinterpretation on the part of the indexer of the hyphenated “Alex-ander” that had me looking for a third brother that didn’t exist. Thanks again!

The record is for an event that took place on 5 Sept 1814, but was actually recorded (re-recorded??) on 17 Oct 1839. The events in Book 26 (at least the ones I looked at) all say they were recorded after the fact. This leads to the interesting question about why/what happened that required the re-recording of records. The FamilySearch Wiki does not indicate there was record loss.
FamilySearch’s earliest Guardian Bond Book is Book 22, 1821-1840 (formerly Bond Book B according to the info on the book spine). Finding the original document instead of a derivative (or at least an earlier version) would be helpful. It would be worth trying to track down the original 1814 Guardian Bond Book, if it still exists. You may need to contact the Lincoln County Probate Court (formerly Ordinary court), a local historical/genealogy society, archive, or library to see what they know about the records.
I checked the Court of Ordinary Minutes for the 1814 time frame.

Dudley Stinson is appointed guardian for Alexander and William, children of Jacob Mims. The entry is found between the court dates of July and November 1814. This book says on its cover that it is a duplicate. (The copyist could have forgotten to put the September date.)Vol. N 1799-1820 (formerly C-1) Film # 005760295
p. 38 (image 40) states the records for 1814-1820 (found on pages following) were transcribed from the Old Court Minutes. Unfortunately, they start in December 1814.0 -
