I have been indexing a City directory that has two pages and goes over 1000 entries but the number goes back to 100 instead of 1001

Do you mean that when you're trying to add the number of records it can't go high enough? If so, the most you can add at a time is 99. Then just add 99 more, and so forth.

The counter actually does go past 1000 — the software just truncates the number in the display.
