Would anyone have information?
Good day. I am a volunteer with the Lucas County (Iowa) Genealogical Society, located in Chariton, Iowa. Several volunteers have been doing extensive research at the south end of the Chariton cemetery for the past 2 years, plus. We believe, by all indications, from newspaper research as well as cemetery records, that there is the possibility of an old pioneer cemetery area at the south end of the cemetery. This happens to be on the east side of the Chariton River where it is at the 'point' south of the city of Chariton. In 1846-47 the Freeman Nickerson family was passing through from Nauvoo to the west and stayed at that location. Freeman himself passed away 22 January 1847. His burial location points to the area of interest mentioned above. Member volunteers are searching every record available. Would the Family Search Library holdings have records of a burial area that would be used from 1844-1858 that may contain several Mormon member burials? The proper land description is Lincoln Township, the SE quarter of the SE quarter of section 30, Twp 72 N, Range 21 W, 5th pm meridian, Lucas County, Iowa. If there are records, would we be able to access those dates, names and location remarks? This would be a tremendous discovery as members of this society wish to work with the City of Chariton and the Chariton Cemetery board to hold off on any land or plot sales in this area, and to make a dedication to this possible pioneer burial ground if it is indeed so.
I thank you for your attention to this request and look forward to hearing from you.
Warmest regards

I suggest you post in the group for Mid-West Research where you may find researchers local to the area.
Good luck!
