Sgt. Thomas Hill Michael MHR1-3N2 cannot be merged with Thomas Hill Michael G88R-BJQ.

The reason given is that son and father cannot be merged. I cannot find any relationship for either record that indicates that a parent child relationship exists.

These are obviously the same individual and should be merged.

    @CarolynHinze1

    Long shot: Try detaching G88R-BJQ from both his parents first, then merge with MHR1-3N2.

    Please report back if it works.

    @Bryan54

    It would be helpful to have an explanation of what the issue was ?

    Given the 20th century dates, I suspect the problem was an incorrect relationship in someone's private space.

    Thank you all. I have now merged them. It would be interesting to know if I could have fixed the problem, or if there was something else. I deleted them both from parents and tried merging, got the same error.

    Anyway they have been merged and that was the goal,

    Thanks again

    This very situation was raised last year. I explained the most likely cause in that discussion:

    https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/140792/identical-individuals-cannot-be-merged

    But only a data administrator with access to other users' living persons could verify the actual situation.
