I'd like to know if there's a way to find descendants of my Danish ancestors living in Denmark.

Hello,

I'm new to this process and to genealogy in general. I was unsure what to put in the "question" above vs. what to type here, so I'll just expand on what I wrote above. I'm going to be in Denmark from April 9 to April 24, 2024. And, I'd like to find any descendants of my ancestors who still live in Denmark and information about them, so I could possibly get in touch with them. My trip was planned on short notice, so I've only had a little time to work on the genealogy. I have some information on ancestors that lived in Denmark: names, births, deaths, places lived and on those who came to the USA in the 1800's. I understand there are privacy issues and I do respect that.

I've always wanted to know more about my Danish heritage and about Denmark itself. I am grateful for anything you can tell me in relation to finding out about my family. And, I'm very excited to be able to visit the land of my ancestors for the very first time.

Kindly,

Debra

My 3rd cousin found descendants of Danish ancestors still living in Denmark by messaging individuals who are contributors to our Danish ancestors in FamilySearch. We now have a private Facebook group for communication and information sharing. Facebook automatically translates for everyone and that's great because only a couple of the 10 members are bilingual and my 3rd cousin and I are the only Americans. Nothing like seeing a photo of the still standing Danish school house your great x2 grandmother attended as a child or a photo of the still standing house in Boston where a Danish ancestor of some members lived after first arriving in the US. The address hadn't even changed from the letters back home: #3 on the street.

Go see who is contributing to your Danish ancestors!

Thank you so much Gail. What a find for you & your cousin! It’s really inspiring to hear & I bet that was a thrill to see those photos. I’m excited to hear from you about it & excited when I find any little tidbit of information. I’ll definitely check with people in your Facebook group. What’s the name of the group & do you have any tips on what to include when I contact them? I belong to FB but never use it. How do I keep it private? Hope you don’t mind answering these additional questions.
I’m grateful that you responded to my initial question.

@Debra2045 I'm sorry but our Facebook group is for only for cousins who share our ancestors. What I recommend you do is to look at YOUR Danish ancestors and look to see who is contributing information to them and send those people a message.
