Great Grandfather´s Address in Hamburg (Dates)
Hello and thank you in advance.
My Greatgrandfather, Julius Christian August Zizold, was born in Braunschweig in 1835. He later moved to Peru and married my greatgrandmother, Josefa Valdez with whom he had 4 children. He set up mineral/metal trading businesses in Peru, Chile and Bolivia with partners and later moved back to Germany (Hamburg) with his wife where they passed away.
In order to qualify for German citizenship by descent, according to the local German consulate, I must prove that Julius registered as a German citizen in the local consulate because he was probably out of Germany for at least 10 years. I searched for his name in the local consular records but did not find him.
I have, however, found a few travel documents (leaving Hamburg, entering New York, etc.). I have also found various documents stating he held an address in Hamburg (Ferdinandstrasse, 40). One of his sons was married and died in Germany. Also, his brother, Wilhelm Zizold was Consul in Tacna, Peru in 1876.
From my investigation, I gather that my greatgrandfather did not register at the local consulate in Peru because he moved back to Germany before the 10 years passed.
What I need help with is finding out the dates he lived in Hamburg (where he passed away) to confirm my theory and therefore determine if I qualify for citizenship by descent.
I enclose his death certificate if it helps but I would greatly appreciate any help anyone may give me.
Thank you!
Carlos del Solar Zizold
