I am trying to access records for Vienna, Austria that I have accessed previously but now when I search in the Catalog the location returned doesn't have any results.

When I look at places in Austria, Vienna is missing from the list.

Does anyone know how to restore Vienna records to the catalog?

    Yikes.

I used the Feedback tab on the results page. I barely avoided the use of actual expletives.

I tried "Wien" and "Vienna" as keywords, which gave long lists of random things, mostly from the city, but I was unable to come up with a way to generate an actually-useful list.

One can hope this is a short-term issue rather than a permanent one. The warning banner is still up on the catalog: A new update to the FamilySearch Catalog could affect the way place names appear in the search box.

Got a reply to my feedback. (Second time ever.)

Apparently, Vienna is in the Catalog database as "Austria, Niederösterreich, Wien", and none of the city's names in the Places database match that mix of languages.

    They gave two suggested workarounds:

    Using keywords: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&query=%2Bkeywords%3AAustria%20%2Bkeywords%3ANieder%C3%B6sterreich%20%2Bkeywords%3AWien

Using the Places database entry that's closest to "Wien": https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=3788479&query=%2Bplace%3A%22Austria%2C%20Lower%20Austria%2C%20Melk%2C%20Wies%22

The former gives an uncategorized (extremely long) list; the latter is in the expected categorized format -- with all of the top levels labeled wrong. (They all say "Melk, Wies", but actually contain Viennese records.)

The reply email did not indicate a timeframe for getting this situation fixed.

    Oh wow, what a mess.

Thank you for posting the answer you received.

At least we know where to find it now.
